Weekend Activities

An important part of attending a boarding school is the opportunity to have fun with other students and faculty on the weekends. These shared experiences play a significant role in the students’ development and help foster relationships that last a lifetime. The variety of activities offered gives students the opportunity to try new things and to challenge themselves as individuals.

Solebury’s location allows us to have a wide assortment of weekend activities. The idyllic 90-acre campus is the perfect backdrop to relax and enjoy the peace of a rural countryside, where a football game, an outdoor fire on a crisp fall evening, or an impromptu jam session often happen. However, within a few miles of campus are New Hope and the other wonderful towns of Bucks County, their restaurants, their stores, and the various festivals they host. Within 30 minutes of campus are five different malls and multiplexes which are always popular with students. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy the opportunity to go for a hike or a bike ride, tube or canoe on the Delaware River, or try their hand at rock climbing. The Pocono mountains and the skiing and snowboarding they offer are an hour and a half away, as is the Jersey Shore and its beaches. Finally, Philadelphia is under an hour away and New York City is an hour and a half away for those who love the big city.

While the faculty and proctors plan a full calendar of weekend activities (click here to see it), there are lots of additions throughout the year that are the result of student initiative. Whether it is the Community Council organizing a dance, the French Honor Society making crepes on a Sunday afternoon, the Diversity club showing a thought-provoking film, or just a few students who in typical Solebury fashion make an idea come to life, there is always lots to do.
